Memento Mori

Memento Mori long poem

Here rests an anonymous Memory,
In the pall of shadows of a wintery night,
Half-cold and slither
Lone keys jingled in my jacket pocket,
And black caps to disguise
my fear streaked silhouette,
In the pall of shadows of a wintery night !!

This is Esplanade,
God’s own downtown terrain, I’ve known,

But shrieks aren’t sensed in here
Hushed up with bloodmoney spilled
For every soul exchanged
Now, this sequence has been for years !!

Ventilating our emotions,
With the forced aura of tranquil
But earthquakes weren’t paused
Neither whirlwinds inside the mind realm
Yet the calm soothens our nerves
Serene as ever
‘Cause that’s the key to victory, (they say).

The chiselle carved moonlight back-alleys,
Where clouds soak in the smog,
Sometimes the catcalls of a mystic centaur
Burns the ashes of sleep
” Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is ….”

We six in a pack alert as hunting dogs,
Eyeing the alleys like a preying owl
“Wait and watch,
And watch or wait.”
In every breath, a mantra we’d growl.

And as cigarettes light up
Petty cash exchanged
Our awakening would follow
Minutes later, AHOY goes our paced Creature,
When nerves tranquilize, as time would near ..
“Sire, Have you got a Light?”

The Brawl of centuries and eons
Conflicting conscience and brain,
As to how glutton a human craze can be
In the race for the second deadly sin.

Thus, started our blackout point,
With blades and bullets
In crafted rhapsody.
Or in a harmonious sync

But shrieks aren’t sensed in here,
Hushed up..

Tranced lay the windy corpses,
Was it vendetta or vengeance?
They’d never know …

* * * * * * * * *

My lone keys in my jacket pocket,
Did finally make a pal,
Crumpled tranche of Gandhian notes,
Some with red stains
These are my memento,
Of the many wintery nights
In the pall of shadows !!

An anonymous memory !!
