Opposites short poem

Rain, wet and unrelenting
Sun, so hot and dazzling
Dreams of misty, cool rain
And rides in an air-conditioned train

Skylines of harsh, cold concrete
Valleys of lush, green meadows
Thunderstorms over a thrashing sea
Beaches of soft, golden sand

Babies at birth, joy abound,
Death bed a-calling, woe surround
Youth, fresh as a first bloom
Aged, feelings of gloom and doom

We thrive in opposites, love and hate.

Poet’s Note:
We live a life surrounded by dualities; we can’t do without the other. When there is light, there will be darkness and where there is birth, death always follows.

From young, I have a love for the English Language and have been a voracious reader of novels, getting my fill from the British Council and later at the U.S.I.S. Clearly the writing style of UK and American authors is different. It is only about three years ago that I ventured into the world of poetry, and starting to pen my own poems. I find it gratifying and fulfilling to have an opportunity to put my thoughts, feelings and emotions into poems and haiku.

Wonderful. Life is truly about opposites.
