Flowering Development Through The Y Chromosome

Flowering Development Through The Y Chromosome long poem

I am a beautiful man
though once I was an ugly boy

worms split at the advance of my sneakers
they knew what was coming
I never shared
chocolate turned sour to spite me

this is no caterpillar and cocoon story

I used to step on honey bees
hardened my soles
with the hard earned pollen
they were born to gift
to the hive

I’d tear up a field of dandelions
give them to the girls
throw them on their laps
paint their smooth thighs

that was sex to me

I got a rusty nail in the shoulder
fleeing from a bully through a ragged fence
convinced him my blood
was chock-full of AIDS
offered to give him a kiss
if he’d leave me alone

the family dog smelled
like processed cheese
that stink will rule my memory
of our first house forever

I took up babysitting
to steal from the pantries
of our neighbors
those isolate delicacies
forgotten on high shelves
or hiding like fat generals
in the back of the refrigerator

I taught the children
to sing nonsense songs
rhymes from a polyglot of languages

I told them that Tom Waits
was secretly Santa Claus

Life eventually rubbed the ugly grit
off my dapper core
my bed glittered with garnet dust

I learned to block out
the horror of American
cultural marketing
that impoverishes the souls
of the Middle Class

I began to live like a beneficent
sixteenth century king
who freed his serfs
and gave them all land
to raise the crops of their choice

I have a pocketful of quarters
and I give until it’s empty

@grawlix67, this is beautiful, the cascading thoughts, the rhapsody, on a wide range of topic. There is high sense of humor, and unmistakably depicts the matured and learned state of the author. A good piece to spice any day.

What a beautiful evolution of the human mind, and the reference to ugliness and beauty with regard to virtue rather than physical appearance.. he is a beautiful man because he shares.
