Between Us

Between Us long poem

Part 1 – Us

A connection, telepathy sometimes.

Cup of tea, cup of coffee.

Helping hand, kind assurance.

Pat on the back, kiss on the lips.

You and me and complete loss of words.

There’s something between us.

A touch once, another glimpse.

Blushed face, dropped eyes.

Blooming heart, desires plenty.

Caring thoughts, loving surmise.

You and me and the rest of the world.

There’s a lot between us.

Sense of jealousy, then some insecurity.

A complaint here, a disagreement there.

Lash of words, clash of egos.

Days of separation, days of heartache.

You and me and head-full of arrogance.

There’s I and You between us.

Part 2 – I

The smell of coffee from your cup still wafts in the air,

Making you stay with me even when you are gone.

The warm aroma conjoins with the sweet savor of honeysuckle from my hair,

Fetching memories of our togetherness, forcing me to feel so lone.

Come back, wont you please come back?

The days dark as the nights, the nights so blue.

When you come back lover, when you come back,

The sun shines brighter, flowers diffuse a brilliant hue.

Back home, my bed entices me, promising blissful sleep.

Soft pillows pledging candied dreams that hope makes me weep.

All i want is your chest so strong, your heart thumping against my ear.

With each beat so assuring, sweeping away all my fear.

Came back, won’t you please come back?

Those ghosts haunt my mind, terror becomes true.

When you come back lover, when you come back,

My love finds a just shore, the sea being you.

I talk to myself so often, pretending a conversation with you.

A speech so well practiced, all words precise, through and through.

Without a warning then, silence pierces the very air.

My eyes initiate an instant search, vainly staring in despair.

Come back, wont you please come back?

You know the days are dark as the nights, the nights so blue.

When you come back lover, when you come back,

You know the sun shines brighter, flowers diffuse a brilliant hue.

Part 3 – You or Me Again?

Phase 1: The Beginning

Countless kisses on that endless night

The sweetness of your breath on my lips, when you held me tight.

Our eyes met, unfolding yet another story,

I still remember how I bathed in that glory.

We whispered sweet nothings, our fingers entwined.

The world judged our love, we left all care behind.

You swore on the moon crescent, said that I was beautiful,

You were a man of words, said all the phrases suitable.

Phase 2: Realization

My hesitant heartbeat called your name out loud, while spreading crimson on my cheek,

Your stammering mouth gasped you love me, while your stubborn heart remained meek.

I shadow boxed the monsters of your past, all your battles did I fight,

Whilst you reflected being my strength, you were merely my kryptonite.

Hardened truth bit my lip, while I bled a painful death of a maiden fair,

Pretense of a smile weaved my face, while the loom pulled the tender threads of my silken hair.

Silence echoed in my ribcage, knowing the truth lies within me,

It was all of you and all of me, leaving no space for we.

Phase 3: The End

I force dream of you every night, to believe it’s meant to be,

Boredom seeped through your thoughts, I refused to see.

You set yourself free, allowed your mind and body to sway,

While I claimed black and white, you lingered in the shades of gray.

Now I stand on a path that leads nowhere,

I am left stranded, neither here nor there.

What a fool have I been, it all ends thus,

There was never, never anything between us.

I am an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. A self taught artist who seeks freedom of expression through art, crafts and words. Bold and unassuming with the ideas and technique,I derive inspiration from a childlike point of view of things around myself. I write and paint in the absence of hesitation brought by non adherence to social logic and influenced debates.I write about my trysts with pain, love, joy, freedom and the journey of it all. My relationship with poetry is at its charming beginning, a quest with thrilling ups and downs. And my experience with writing is like Robert Frost rightly quoted,‘Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.’

the ravages of time and life on a cherished relationship…beautifully captured. Also interesting is the change in the meter of the poetry, its almost like reading a story.
