Afraid of the dark

Afraid of the dark short poem

Liars are them who say aren’t afraid of the dark.

Monsters under them bed they fear…

The howl of wolf at a distance they hear…

Liars are them who say they aren’t afraid of the dark.

Marshy creeks.

Silence shrieks.

Fear grips.

Wisdom slips.

Them so afraid of the dark.

Ghosts of past become them curtains fluttering in the breeze slow…

Demons of present throw patterns of shadow on them ceiling mellow…

Them feeling unknown others hot stench of breath beside…

Squeal of window, a voice calling from far away, them thoughts divide.

The dead rise.

The living die.

Fear grips.

Wisdom slips.

Them so afraid of the dark.

I am them who is afraid of the dark.

The one who says not, is lying stark.

For when fear sets in them, courage is due.

The Lord of darkness must be afraid of the dark too.

I am an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. A self taught artist who seeks freedom of expression through art, crafts and words. Bold and unassuming with the ideas and technique,I derive inspiration from a childlike point of view of things around myself. I write and paint in the absence of hesitation brought by non adherence to social logic and influenced debates.I write about my trysts with pain, love, joy, freedom and the journey of it all. My relationship with poetry is at its charming beginning, a quest with thrilling ups and downs. And my experience with writing is like Robert Frost rightly quoted,‘Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.’

There are times when courage speaks through fear. The undertone of this poem is that courage. Extremely well worded and wonderfully honest. @Archana, your poems have a depth we all long to experience. Keep writing.
