My Island Home

Sea breeze salty and warm
Dark clouds brewing up a storm
Sea spray all over my face
Worries long gone, without a trace

Homeward bound on a ferry
Childhood memories I carry
Now the island is in sight
Heart beating fast, my eyes are bright

Islanders’ windswept faces
Carefree lives in open spaces
Often roving the alleyways
Bicycles they ride everyday

Temple at island’s far end
Packed with tourists at every bend
Smoke from joss sticks scales the air
Lingering scent on clothes and hair

From young, I have a love for the English Language and have been a voracious reader of novels, getting my fill from the British Council and later at the U.S.I.S. Clearly the writing style of UK and American authors is different. It is only about three years ago that I ventured into the world of poetry, and starting to pen my own poems. I find it gratifying and fulfilling to have an opportunity to put my thoughts, feelings and emotions into poems and haiku.

Unto My Sister short poem

I am terribly shocked and remorseful My sister, can’t help than weeping at your ill-fate Transcending self to a passive onlooker Or to the role of an unmindful passenger With torn heart, tied hands, and bleeding eyes All finding acutely
