Shredding Images

you are not insane enough to write
the colorful cichlids of your thoughts
are hidden in the bowl with the gray marbles
you used to think were dead mens’ eyes
then maybe ancient Greek bullets
you used to be able to make so many
things out of anything and today
your head aches like an un-oiled grinder
choked on paper dust gray as a trout
three hours in the sunlight
you can smell it and your fingertips
anticipate the fleshy give the grease
you could watch it for weeks as death
has its way with the corpse directing
its minions to bore it through rot it out
useless as a fishbowl for a blind man
just another bomb to spill break cut
