Learning sonnet poems

What use books, knowledge, ways to see the world,
To learn to deal with life, the laws and men?
What use to know protection and defense,
And poetry, why flags are rolled and then unfurled?
for what is it to read and write and see
The motives of existence, pains of men,
the need to give a hand in charity
the need to love our brothers when we can?
We carry empty baskets in our heads
To fill with what is needed as we tread,
For we are hungry beings, we need bread
for we must toil and sweat and rest in bed.
A basket filled does not make one a sage,
and to forget life’s purpose is to age.
