In The Depths

In The Depths short poem

In the moment of silence,
there alone,
just me,
no one else,
I feel the terrors of my mind.

The effect of life on my soul.

The raging storm,
in my mind,
the lack of peace,
the power of change,
yet unwillingness to comply,
to accept change,
the depths of solitude,
we force ourselves into.

There in that moment,
you realize you are alone,
just you,
the silence,
screamingly loud,

And the heart beats,

We are, essentially,
… all alone, just alone.

We think,
our thoughts,
engulfing us,
drowning us,
strangling us,
tearing at our soul,
breaking us apart,
we try, hard as we may,
that it won’t leave,
we scream, but no one hears,
we bleed, but the cut is invisible,
the tears cease to flow,
yes they cease,
the pain infiltrates our bones,
its in every cell,
its depth is murder,
it kills, it suffocates,
we feel it like a sharp blade to the heart.

Help? Yet no one hears,
no one, and like the face in the mirror,
you realize,
it is just you,
yes just you.

Poet’s Note:
We all struggle with depression, from time to time. We have to manage difficulties, wherever they arise, yet it is a lonely path.
