To My Neha

To My Neha ode

I hated you the first time I had known you,

You had this air,

You stole my friend,

(Or so I thought)

and I was crazy jealous.

I hated you to supreme heights.

And now after nearly two decades,

Of being my closest friend,

I know for a fact

That I will never hate you anymore,

I am glad it was all done in the first few months of knowing you.

We have smiled,

we have cried,

we have danced,

we have barfed,

we have loved,

we have hated,

we have fought,

and after each fight grown stronger.

You have been my friend,

my guide, my sponge, my light

My sister, my teacher,

that strong emotional support system.

At times you have been my brain,

my heart, my soul, my spine,

my voice, my gut, my strongest inner voice.

You have been more than my words could describe,

I am glad, I have earned, a divine friend like you for life …
