Through The Fire

I thought I knew what was best.
I walked away as Jesus was calling instead of granting his request.
I closed my eyes and ears to what was taking place.
I felt there was no reason for running this race.
I did not realize I was hurt, lost and undone.
Therefore, I walked away betraying the Son.

My family and friends stood all around.
They saw my world come tumbling down.
I realized that my character was flawed.
Remembering this my emotions became raw.
I was fighting the biggest battle of my life.
The pain I was feeling cut me like a knife.

I watched in agony as my life began to fall away.
All I knew to do was to fall on my knees and pray.
I wondered is it too late?
I knew I had more than I could handle on my plate?
I should have listened to your voice.
I knew now I had made the wrong choice.

I began to quiver in fear.
Where did I go from here?
I felt my heart literally break.
Would you help me if it was for my own sake?
I had run away from you.
Now I did not know what to do.

There was nowhere to go, nowhere to look, but up to you.
Now was the time that it was you I must pursue.
So I came before your throne on bended knee.
As I began to pray I said, “Jesus this is my plea.”
“I was not in the right frame of mind.”
“I was looking for something I could not find”

“I was looking for a love that was true.”
“Now I realize it has always been you.”
“I come before you now, begging you please.”
“Forgive me for all my terrible deeds,”
“Somehow I got lost along the way.”
“I forgot how to reach out and pray.”

“I had so much pain in my heart.”
“I allowed it to keep us apart.”
“Please mend this heart of mine.”
“Then I know I will be fine.”
“I know you are in this place.”
“I know you will be will be with me; no matter what I must face.”

I began to feel a great peace.
I knew I had been released.
I was released from sin.
At the end of my journey I had gained Jesus as my Savior and best friend.
When I was walking this thin wire.
Jesus helped me get through the fire.
I knew then Jesus was the only way.
I began a new life on that day.

Poet’s Note:
Many times in life we walk away when Jesus is calling us because we think we know what is best or we are looking for something we can’t find. On our journey we realize that it was Jesus we needed all along and then we turn to him for salvation.
