Missing

For there is a gap
Between my tears
They are not whole

I cannot weep freely like the rain
There are no rainbows on my horizon
The sun no longer rises now you are gone

It is not a missing part
It is a lack of something that was there
I was so absolutely certain that we would both make it to old age

I may be an autumn leaf held onto the branch
Emotions raw, red, ochre, burnt umber, brittle to the touch
But I will not let you ground me in your reality

There is a gap between my tears
I am not ready to be human again
Damn your civility and your sympathy

The rainbow is monochrome and the day forever night
I pray I will not wake to the cruel transient dawn
Something that is not found because of its lack
