Like A Girl

The smirks and taunts upon the faces
People who try to diminish your value
Every action judged,critiqued with words
Flung at you from on high
Where they sit with superiority

Like a girl, they say
You throw the ball

You’re a girl, they say
Why are you dressed like that

Like a girl, they say
You cry or react

You’re a girl, they say
You can’t do that

You smile confidently and shake your head
Because you know the truth is not as they have said

Like a girl you say
You throw the ball
Spot on, with accuracy, with sweat, with might
You throw the ball with focus and purpose
You throw the ball for your team and a common goal
Like a girl

I’m a girl, you say
I’ll dress as I like
Suites may make the man
But clothing does not define the girl
I do not dress for your pleasure
I dress for my purpose
Like a girl

I’m a girl, you say
I cry and react
With compassion and feeling
Not for drama or effect
I am not afraid to let others know
That I care about them with all my heart
Like a girl

I’m a girl, you say
I have to try harder than some
To show that it is a compliment
To be described
Like a girl

I am so glad you are here. Please make yourself at home, here, next to the arm-chair. Let us talk of poetry and life; let us laugh and crack jokes; let us rule the world with our lofty thoughts and electrodes for those out of line. Most likely I will pee a little when we laugh, and my thoughts are usually random rather than lofty, but you know what they say: “The dog of the exceptional wisdom has the bird of sleeping monkeys in his dreams!”Anyway, I was talking to a guy the other day who was high on pot (he was standing on the toilet) and I mentioned my fear of bush hogs and roaches. He comforted me and then asked why I was in the stall with him.So there you go, my full life story nowhere on this page. I feel like we know each other so much better now. Sometimes I’m serious, sometimes I seriously funny, sometimes I’m seriously gassy. I am at all times grateful for your support. If you have an idea to share, or just want to drop a line, you can contact me at peanuttyoh@yahoo.comBe excellent to each other and glitter on glitterbombs.

Like An Old Song

Like An Old Song short poem

Walking in mental fog, you become a swaying tree. In mistiness one becomes lonely like a blackbird. Hollyhocks would wait, till the sun comes out. December rain brings the gift― of sleet on lips. ————————————– Walking in mental fog, you
