The Un Expected

The Un Expected short poem

We seldom expect the unexpected

We were preparing to go to work
We got agitated for small discomfort
We shouted and blamed each other for nothing

We felt life is ruined because of our mismatch
We prayed this be the last birth we are together
We felt like tearing each other’s hair in anger
We left for work not looking at each other

My mobile start ringing. It is HE calling
I refuse to take the call and I cut the call
I continue to receive call, I continue to disconnect

But the call kept ringing & out of frustration
I picked up the phone and shouted at him

I realized I have heard some other’s voice and not His

I ask him sorry & before I could talk further
I heard he is asking me, is it Mrs.???.
I say with anguish “yes”
I hear the person telling “sorry Ma’m He is killed in the accident”
I got shaken and start sweating and swooned

I open my eyes and realize I am lying on bed
I see my relatives & friends all round staring at me
I try to locate my husband in that gathering but in vain

Suddenly my eyes stare at HIS smiling photo
hanging on the wall with decorative flowers around his neck

I lay motionless and tears refusing to burst
out, while I hear roars of cries from all those

An unnecessary argument and anger
cost me my whole life
I realised the unexpected would befall
any time making life topsy-turvy
while I had no time to think it may happen so
