Sanctuary short poem

‘Go Back To Where You Came From’ is the title of the story,
and it deals with much emotion of humanity… same as you and me.

And to those with less compassion, understanding and knowledge;
of whom there are many, they are labelled so mercilessly.
Boat people, queue jumpers, asylum seekers.

Are the labels necessary for souls who just strive to be free?
To live out their lives with some hope, peace and dignity.

Do they really come here on a boat that’s far from worthy at sea,
if not fleeing from persecution; even death, in their own home country?

They sacrifice all, leaving behind; mothers, fathers, children.
So don’t you believe we must honour the fire of the human spirit,
for where is the truth and justice if we don’t; in it!

Our land is large and wide with much, much room for all.
So oi, oi oi all Aussies; I am begging of you please.
Just open up our hearts, and give them… SANCTUARY
