My Son

My Son long poem

When I brought you on this earth
When I saw your tiny figure the first time
When I held you in my arms
I felt then the strong bond of motherhood
I felt the sense of belonging
The joy of you belonging to me

Thought I will protect you
From the evils of this world
Like I had protected you in my womb for nine months
Your success will be my success, your failure my failure
Your pain my pain

In the act of protecting you, I did not mind my follies
May be I over-protected you
I knew not where I went wrong
I knew not my failures
The pain borne by you because of me
But yet the hours of pain brought a little sunshine

I saw your strength, your courage
I knew it came from within
Independently, your own, not induced
Your strength, your courage, your patience
Gave me courage to face everything
Your effort to fight for life
Gave me strength in those dark hours

Each little suffering of yours, made me suffer
I know, I trust, when you’ll look back in your life
These hours of pain will make you stronger
These hours of pain will pass but you will emerge
My son – a strong courageous young man – a true human
Because you have known what pain is

a beautiful poem which shows the bond between a mother and a child

Akhtar Jawad

It may be a description of a particular mother for a particular child but to me it appeared as if mother earth or the mother nature is addressing her children while seeing them off to the practical world. I say this because I felt myself subjected to the message of this lovely poem.

Geetha Paniker
