Average Joe And The Inferiority Complex

Average Joe And The Inferiority Complex short poem

I live an ordinary life,
In an ordinary home
Built from ordinary bricks
Made from ordinary stone.

Each ordinary day I wake,
Go down the ordinary stairs,
Take a deep long breath and smell
The ordinary air.

At my ordinary breakfast,
I turn on the TV,
And watch the latest news with
My ordinary family.

Once I’m prepared I get right in
My ordinary car,
Drive to my ordinary job,
‘Cross ordinary tar.

And there I sit, from 9 till 5,
At my ordinary desk,
In that ordinary office block,
So tall and statuesque.

5 PM, I stand at last,
The day is at an end,
So I go to an ordinary bar,
To meet with all my friends.

My friend, the great, successful writer,
My friend, the movie star,
My friend, in that famous band
Who drives a big, fast car.

And while I seem to fake a smile
I feel only duress.
For everywhere I go I am
Surrounded by success.

Compared to them, I’m nobody.
An ant upon their boots
A grain of sand upon their beach,
A seed, devoid of roots.

Oh how I want to be like them,
But I know that I don’t stand
A chance at having such talent,
Of ever being so grand

And so all that I can do
Is hang my head and cry
Knowing that I’ll always be
Just an ordinary guy.

My muse is like an excitable dog. It catches sight of totally random things and starts yapping and running around and wagging its tail and WILL NOT STOP until I write a poem about it.My poetry is sometimes based on personal experience and sometimes on other things. Aside from that, I enjoy video games (My favourite game series is Mass Effect) and the popular television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
