And Jesus Said…

And Jesus Said... prose poem

(Jesus speaks at Liberty University, Virginia, wearing a T-shirt and jeans.)

Now, a lot of you have asked me some very good questions,
And a lot of these questions seem to go along the lines of:
“Who is God? Is God a man or a woman? What does he look like?”
To those people right now, I have something to say.
And, uh… I think I’ve probably said it before, a long time ago,
Just with different words.
Annnd I think it might, possibly change a few people’s perceptions.

God is not a man.

God is not a woman.

God is not a person.
God does not live in Heaven.
And he does not send sinners to Hell.
No.

God… is you.

God is all of us.
I am God. So are you, sir– yes, you right there.
And you, madam.
And you, kiddo.
And Barack Obama is God. And Mitt Romney, too.
And Angela Merkel, and Queen Elizabeth,
And Jim Carrey, and Morgan Freeman.
God is every single man and woman here, and everywhere.

“Why do you say this?” you ask. “Is there some spiritual meaning?”
The answer is no. What I mean is that you don’t need a leader.
All of you are God, so you have the power to live for yourselves.
All you have to do to be God is to make a choice.
When you think of a problem, don’t think “What would God do?”
Don’t think “What would Jesus do?”
Think “What do I think is the best option?”
“What should I do?”
That is all that you must do to muster the strength to be God.
So, I want all of you to go out today, and live for yourselves.
Everything you did in God’s name before, do it instead for yourself.
If you helped people in God’s name, do it for yourself.
If you did your best to succeed in God’s name, do it for yourself.
If you killed in God’s name, do it for yourself.
If you spread hate in God’s name, do it for yourself.
Just see your own actions in that persepctive,
And see just how much of a change it makes.

My muse is like an excitable dog. It catches sight of totally random things and starts yapping and running around and wagging its tail and WILL NOT STOP until I write a poem about it.My poetry is sometimes based on personal experience and sometimes on other things. Aside from that, I enjoy video games (My favourite game series is Mass Effect) and the popular television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
