Saint Valentine’s Curse

All over the world, today
Hearts are opening, filling the air with love
As couples everywhere remind themselves
Of the unbreakable bonds that tie them together.

That’s one way of looking at it.
But what about those who have nobody?
Those whose hearts remain closed,
The love within remaining cold and dusty.

As a certain pair of brothers once said,
Everybody needs somebody to love.
For ages I convinced myself of the opposite,
Wallowing content in my loneliness.

But for one day, every year
All around me love.
Just reminds me what I’m missing,
Reminds me that there’s a gap in my soul.

As much as I might try,
No amount of friendship, or comfort eating
Can fill in this missing piece of the puzzle.
I can never be complete without it.

And so here I am,
Reduced to writing depressive poetry
Whilst eating chocolate in my bedroom. Alone.
Alone, never to be joined by anyone else.

I am one half of an unachievable whole,

Never to be put together.

My muse is like an excitable dog. It catches sight of totally random things and starts yapping and running around and wagging its tail and WILL NOT STOP until I write a poem about it.My poetry is sometimes based on personal experience and sometimes on other things. Aside from that, I enjoy video games (My favourite game series is Mass Effect) and the popular television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
