The Legacy

The Legacy short poem

There is far too much evil
in this long misused world,
too much force-fed fear.
Too many bent and broken lives
adrift on a torrent of tears.

Too many innocent children
being brainwashed
in too many crowded halls.
Pointless graffiti spread like scars
on cold, crumbling walls.

How can we let them teach,
with calm and conscience clear,
such a history of loathsome lies.
Our children taking it all in
with eager, innocent eyes.

Throw away the curriculum,
the division, the hate
and all the government lies.
Teach them how to dig down deep
and find their own truth in life.

We must teach them
love, respect, honour,
loyalty, dignity and pride.
Of life together, sowing seeds,
and a family for which to provide.

Nurture their creativity;
their wonder at beauty,
nature, writing and art.
Unleash the possibilities lying dormant
within each tender, young heart.

Help and protect them in
whatever they choose,
for they are the legacy we leave.
The beat of new life in the hearts
of all that they will soon weave.

Knowledge holds the power
to defeat the tyrants;
to crack open the shell.
Find it, share it
but above all else,
use it well.

A black rose blossomed in the snow forlorn it stood freezing in bitter cold alone and pining for a loving touch.. love went to pluck it and take it home to adorn a crystal flower vase the sly thorn pricked

Legacy short poem

From the far horizon comes a call, To meet the lilting song of yesterday, How far away to the sunset I ask? No one answers to my dismay. Silent images whirl on by, Like a kite flying without string. I

Legacy short poem

This dawn, the legacy of nights before, Breaks from horizons of the distant past, In land so faraway, on stranger shore, Now gone, but not mementos that still last; Find no memorials proudly hewn in stones, Nor citadels to champion

Legacy short poem

A wretched little hut still stands. Stained windows, a cranky door. There was laughter in it once, but nobody lives here anymore. Broken down by the waves of time, Still putting up a bold front.  Violence, loneliness, pain, people moved
