An Unfair Sisterhood

Find your place
the back of the bus
take what they give you
don’t make a fuss
do as they say
not as they do
follow their rules
stay quiet too
no protesting … no squeaky wheel
go through the motions
learn how not to feel
adhere to their law
as you’ve come to fear it
silence your pain
they don’t want to hear it
keep your gaze down
don’t draw attention
steer clear of conflict debate or dissension
you’re here for your children
and nothing more
as you peek through your burka
you know the score
