Once It Breaks

once it breaks then mends again
it’s never quite the same
the wall goes up…uninviting
less willing to play the game
remain on guard
don’t lose yourself
don’t give it all away
tread cautiously
don’t assume
be mindful what you say
trudge along,…start again
another lesson learned
toughen up
lose desire
for what your heart once yearned
perfect love elusive and rare
though the want for it innate
luck of the draw
it’s randomness
there’s no such thing as fate
if you trust too much and then get hurt
you’ve just yourself to blame
for once it breaks then mends again
It’s never quite the same

Once Upon A Valentine long poem
