Our Best Friend

Our Best Friend prose poem

The lubricant of all human interactions
Calming the storm brewing in my teacup
Hurling me out of the dangerous explosions
That will tear me into a million little shards
“Excuse me, what did you say?” Is the caution phrase
Something to hint at the calamity that one is about to face
Act fast. Don’t wait, just create something extraordinary
Like” Naw, you look fine in that dress”, apply some flattery
“Just the thing I wanted! Thank you so much!” rub it onto the cut
“Whoa, what a fabulous meal!” stitch it up, toss a quick laugh
Phew, mission accomplished. Check it off my to-do list.
Getting dinner, and bumping into an old enemy at the stall
Dressed in starkly contrasting red and greens, attention-grabbing in the mall
“Hey, nice fashion sense you have!” Plaster on a highly synthetic smile
“Excuse me, what did you say?” The irate thundered and reverberated for miles
I feel clouds gathering over my head, as I prepare my journey down to the ground
Lips tremble, legs locked and courage showed up as Error 404: Unfound.
Take note, friend of mine. Use it at your own risk, be wise, have tact.
Maybe, you would be better off stating the facts.
Blurting out limpidly that she would’ve looked better
With like, purple or carmine. Or perhaps she could’ve just gotten fatter
Oh wait, that’ll be a Tsunami forming in my little mug
I really hope when I say something wrong, someone would give me a little tug
And return the clear skies in the little kingdom of my petit cup.
