If ballad

If I lived in the sky,
dressed in gold,
looking charmingly fine
and on my lips honey glowed

If I owned a kingdom
spanning skyline to skyline
with slaves at my beck and call
due to royalty in my bloodline

Or with a swipe I moved nations
with my voice I called millions
with my smile I bring joy
to the hearts of the poor,

Would this feeling feel otherwise
and make you positively decide?

In this heart of trend and class
covered by a ragged exterior
I am a low class
not seeking favour

By the truth of my heart
against me you make your decision
By the lies of his mouth
in his favour you make your decision

As you were born, so shall you return
hence I shall woo with what gives me life not what I’ve made out of life
for the heart only professes true LOVE
